My sister wrote an article several months ago, for her magazine, about little things. The point was that it’s often the little things that mean the most. I’m not sure that these particular little things qualify. lol
It’s time for the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival, and I am giving away a gift package of - literally - little things. It will include several examples of things I made to put into Christmas gifts last month, as well as a couple other “little things.” To enter, leave a comment that offers an example of a “little thing” that can mean a lot to someone. Gain an extra entry by first subscribing to my feed, and letting me know in your comment that you’ve done so. (I’m not feed-savvy enough yet to figure out on my own who subscribed!) The deadline for entering is midnight Saturday night, February 2nd. (I’m on EST.)
Oops. I forgot the image and link:

I think a smile is a little thing that can make people happy. If someone smiles at me, it makes me feel happier, especially if I’m having a bad day.
January 28th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Someone told me just the other day how much it meant to her that I always greeted her warmly as she entered the building at work. So kind words and a smile can mean SO much, even though they take so little!
Stop by my giveaway if you get a chance!
January 28th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
One of my favorite “little things’ is a smile. I don’t care where I’m at or if I even feel like it - I love to give a smile. It just brightens folks up. I think the grocery store is my favorite place to do this…….oop. You got me going here!
Sweet blog. Looking forward to coming back……
Blessings ~

A little thing that means a lot is to say something nice to a cashier next time you are shopping. I used to be a cashier, and I saw my share of nasty people–so believe me, I know how much a smile and a ‘how ya doin’?’ mean!
I’m going to try to paste your URL over at my blog!
January 28th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
take notice of something that is worn (say for an example… dish cloths or towels, oven mitts) and surprise your friend with some new ones with a bow tied around them with some tea attached. She surely will appreciate it. I’m getting ready to do this for my friend. Her husband is in Iraq and I want to bless her.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Stop by my place to win a bath set & candles or one of two copies of a book I’m giving away.

When my friends’ are in the hospital in labor, I stop by for a key to their house to tidy up and put some meals in the fridge. It sounds like a big thing, but really, it only takes about a half an hour to run to the store for luncheon meats, fresh baked bread, and fresh fruit, then run the vaccumm and load the dishwasher.

I think a little thing that is often over looked is telling your close family and friends that your LOVE them! This past Christmas, I made a point of telling everyone of my brothers and sister (I have 9!) that I love them! That is something we never really said verbally to eachother and I could tell they were very touched by that!
Thanks so much for doing this!

January 31st, 2008 at 12:09 am
Oh, little things can mean a lot. I can’t tell you how many times God has brought someone along my way getting rid of some little thing that we really needed.. “I’ve got these extra storage baskets,” “I’ve got some extra baby clothes,” “I”ve got some extra ____ meat from the ____ we bought and had butchered.” No kidding on all three of those. And I’ve had people give me venison and pork on several occasions! There’s nothing like free food.
God always knows what I need and sometimes he sends someone along my way with some little thing to fill it.

One of the little things that means the world to me is the quiet moments that I get with my toddler daughter. After we’ve had a long day where she tests my patience to the limit and her frustration level has reached a peak, she cuddles up with me on the couch and we just relax and I hold her tight.

I think the biggest little thing would be a baby! What could mean more than a beautiful, sweet child?!? Another would be a wedding ring - little in size, but a BIG symbol.

A smile. A pat on the back. A little hug. A cat’s purr. A dog’s tail wag. A child’s giggle. Just to name a few…
January 31st, 2008 at 10:29 am
A phone call when someone is going through a hard time is a wonderful little thing! My mom was undergoing chemotherapy, and during the times when she was sick and in the hospital last year, it was wonderful just to get a phone call to check on me, and see how my mom was and how I was doing!
January 31st, 2008 at 11:16 am
Hm…a little thing that means a lot. Someone saying, “I know…I’ve been there” when I was in the middle of a 3 year old melt down at the grocery store.

Little things matter to me a lot–I have to say that lately the best little thing in my life is going home and having the dog there wagging his tail. Sometimes he’s sleeping when I come in and he just lays there and wags his tail like a crazy dog–it makes me happier than anything else. Seriously, it’s better than chocolate!!! :o)

Thanks for offering this giveaway of little things, because you are right sometimes the little things matter most.

I like to look a passerby right in the eye as they pass, and say a genuine “hello!” or “good morning”. It really seems to cheer them as they pass. I also say hello to street people since I once saw a documentary where one complained that they go “unseen in society” and ignored.
I love little “things”. Just ask my hubby… little spoons, tiny baskets, worry dolls, miniature versions of just about anything! So this would be a really fun win for me!
Thanks!
January 31st, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I love little and BIG things. As for something little that means a lot, I’d have to say someone just saying “I care”. Thanks for the giveaway!

I leave my husband little notes in his lunch box, so that he finds them while he’s at work and knows I’m thinking about him.

People show me small kindnesses every day. The trick is to notice. I used to send out ‘Christmas letters’ to people who had shown me some small extra kindness, maybe the receptionist where I get my mammogram who helped me feel more calm, or a store clerk who went that extra mile to find what I was looking for, telling them how much they had brightened my year. Now as I get older and more forgetful, I no longer wait until Christmas, and try to send notes all year as nice things happen. If I go a month and haven’t noticed someone who deserves to be thanked, I know I haven’t been paying attention!

I love it when my hubby does the little things. Like when he lets me put my cold feet on him to get warm.
Thanks for entering me.

Holding the door for others or people holding the door for me. That is always a special moment for me of kindness from one person to another.

Sometimes just a smile means a lot to a stranger. Hugs and kisses mean a lot to my hubby and kids.

A little thing like calling your sister when you are thinking about her, rather than just brushing it off.
I hope I win! volcano at gmail dot com

Little things are often the best, and when you do ‘little things’ for someone it’s often not “little’ at al to them.
Neat idea.

A hand-written note dropped in the mail just thanking them for being in your life.

A little thing to me would be a little note left telling how much that person means to me or vice versa. Please count me in! Thanks! ~

I know that receiving a card from a friend brightens my day, so I hope that when I send out little cards people feel the same way. It’s so easy to drop a cute card in the mail! Thanks!

Please enter me. I think for me a “little thing” would just be acknowledging a loved one when I first walk in the room. For example if I go into the living room and my husband is there, I make sure to tell him I love him before doing anything else. I know he likes that. Thanks.

a little thing that means alot to people would be just a note to say hello and tell them how much they mean to you.

Little things can mean the difference to many. A minute of your time is a little thing but can mean that you care for another. A pat on the shoulder is a little thing but can say, it’s gonna be ok.
It doesn’t have to be big or fancy to be good or to feel good.

A little thing means remembering to say please and thank you. To give someone a hug when they’ve had a bad day. To ask how a sick family member is doing etc. To be thoughtful.
