Can anyone tell me how to learn how to use my keyboard? Not typing; I know how to type. But it has all these “special” buttons - like the Windows button - that aren’t part of the main keyboard, and I have no idea how to find out what they do (aside from just pushing them and hoping that A. I don’t break something, and B. I can tell what they do). Is this information hidden somewhere in the depths of my computer’s help files, or must a user just know, or what? And what about the number pad? I have a laptop, and someone very helpfully informed me that it does, indeed, have a number pad built in (I checked and, sure enough, there it is, in grey, in the middle of the keyboard - around the “K”), but I can’t figure out how to activate it. That (the number pad) is the one thing I’ve really been missing since switching to a laptop, so figuring out how to use it would be huge.

Hi there!
Try holding down the “alt” button while typing those numbers. That may or may not work–I’ve never tested it.
Or, here’s a possible solution on someone else’s blog: http://www.northlite.net/ps/numpad.htm
Here’s another link that might be helpful to you: http://www.remembering-your-keyboard-shortcuts.com/function-keys.html
I didn’t know how to do any of these things already, by the way. I just thought I’d do a Google search and learn as well. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Kacie! Unfortunately, none of those worked. But I hadn’t thought of trying to search for it, so I think I’ll try Googling my laptop brand (Toshiba) along with the other terms and see if that helps.
