Moving

by @ 5:23 pm on August 14, 2008.

Well, the big move is coming up.  We still don’t have a house, so we don’t have an exact date, but we know it will be in about the next month, because someone is buying the house we currently rent.  I’m looking forward to having this whole process done!  The move, in general, I’m looking forward to.  I’m just not looking forward to all of the logistical stuff involved in getting physically moved.  You know, packing, unpacking, etc.  :)  And we probably should try to finish clearing the junk out of our yard.  It isn’t ours; it’s been here since we moved in.  In fact, the yard looks much better than it did when we moved in.  We have literally hauled away truckloads of garbage, gotten rid of old rusty bicycles, etc. that were in the yard when we got here.  But there is a still a broken lawnmower, a car-top carrier like you stash luggage in for long trips, and a rusted-out bed frame, to name the most significant eyesores.  (The broken lawnmower hubby is hanging onto for the time being, because it makes a handy dolly for moving large heavy objects! lol)  And cleaning!  I’m looking forward to the deep cleaning being over with, too.  Can’t I just snap my fingers and be at next month already? lol

    Tips on moving:

    1) Start packing now! Pack EVERYTHING you don’t use everyday!
    2) Donate to Goodwill things you haven’t used in a year (to lighten the load).
    3) When deciding whether or not to donate a certain item, think about the possibility that the square footage of your new space may be less than what you have now. You don’t want to have more stuff than space!
    4) Don’t buy anything new before moving! If you buy 50 lbs of grain now, that’s 50 lbs you have to move later!
    5) Don’t be afraid to ask for help in any aspect of the move.
    6) Pack and clean a room at a time. Then, once you have cleared out all of the boxes in that room, all you have to do is vacuum.
    7) I wouldn’t stress myself out about the yard; if you didn’t make the mess, then I doubt you are obligated to clean it up.

    Thanks!

I’m actually more concerned about running out of wheat at this point, than moving a bunch of it, because we *didn’t* stock up. lol

Michael’s going to help me this weekend to sort out what can “safely” be packed now. I don’t mind the physical packing, but I’m not good at the mental part of figuring out what we can do without for weeks.
