My Hubby is So Good :)

by @ 10:19 am on August 18, 2008.

Michael is a blessing in so many ways, but the one that is most prominent in my mind at the moment is his skill in budgeting and planning.  It’s such a blessing that not only does he do all of our budgeting (meaning I don’t have to!), but he does it really well, too.  If I were in the midst of a change in pay schedule, etc., I would be thoroughly confused.  I would probably have a budgeting mess at the moment.  But, thanks to Michael, we have no mess.  Not only are all of the bills accounted for, groceries taken care of, etc., he is also planning for Christmas and various other needs (like maintenance on the car which is about to need its inspection renewed).  He takes such good care of us. :D

Does he have any pointers?! I’m just starting to budget for us out of necessity, and it can be daunting… especially when there’s a need to play catch-up.

He says he has two - three, if you have debt.

#1 - Budget for fun stuff. (This makes the budget feel less constricting, and you’re more likely to stick to it.)

#2 - Don’t budget every dollar. This will allow your account balance to climb, if no unexpected expenses arise. If unexpected expenses do arise, you don’t want every dollar to be budgeted to something else already!

#3 - If you have debt, pay as much extra as you can on the smallest loan. When it is paid off, pay the full amount that you were paying on that loan, on the next smallest loan, along with what you were already paying. And so on, until they’re all paid off.
